And the Bites Roll On

Its was another busy week and weekend here at the resort, with summer coming to a close and the kiddo’s getting ready to head back into the classroom. Fishing has continued to be on par with what people expect this time of year, despite the drastic changes in weather and winds. The start of the week (24th-30th) was more of the same 90+ heat we were seeing the weekend before,  which made for a busy last week for our pool, and with light winds and no cloud cover it made for some very hot and muggy conditions, but for the anglers that kept at it anyway, they were rewarded with good numbers of keeper Walleye, Perch and Pike. As we headed towards the holiday weekend temps began to drop into the low 80’s during the day, and into the 60’s at night.

Walleye are being caught at almost any location that you can try, it really seems like you just need to stay in roughly 10 feet of water, and pull any color crank bait to be succesful. Submarine Island, Pelican Island, Mokey, Big Rock and Flesch’s Reefs have also been good, while almost any color is working, Perch and Crawfish are by far the best, with many anglers using them exclusively. Weedy ares around Sucker Bay and Goose Island are giving up nice variety packs of fish, many Perch, Rock Bass, Walleye and Pike are being caught, with low light periods being best for the Walleye, fish the weeds with a jig and a minnow.

Perch are really starting to show up in the bays close to the resort (Miller and Uram) and the fish are big, we have been cleaning a good number of 12 inch or better Perch, while area’s up in Sucker Bay and into the Walker Narrows are also giving up Perch, and if what has been happening recently is a sign of whats to come, it’s going to be a good fall.

Muskie are still biting, though slowly, with the 2013 Frank Schneider Memorial Muskie Tournament to be held on 20 area lakes (including Leech) at the end of next week, I’ll have more to report on in the Muskie dpt.

Featured image up top is of Rob Osterberg and his new wife Megan, from Garden Prairie, IL, and quite the stringer of Perch and Rock Bass, all caught near Second Duck Point in Sucker Bay my filet knife got a work out on that day.

Its shaping up to be a great start to September, with temps forecasted to be in the mid 70’s for the next week, fishing should stay right were we like it, good.
