Week Late, and a Walleye Short

Posted on June 30, 2014 · Posted in Leech Lake Fishing Report

First off I would like to apologize for missing last weeks entry, I was umm.. on vacation! no.. not really, there just wasn’t much to report on in the fishing department, the weather on the other hand was more report worthy. The week of the 14th-21st started out nice, blue skies and temps in the upper 70s, but by Tuesday that all changed day long rain showers with high east winds pounded the resort for the next 2 days, and when the rain decided to stop, the wind thought it would just keep on blowing, the weather pretty much shut down anyones plans to spend time on the lake. there was a couple bright spots late in the week, a nice batch of crappie came in caught in Uram Bay, the biggest being over 15 inches, and a couple nice Pike were caught there too weighing in at 9 pounds each, Uram was one of the few spots that you could hide from the wind that is relatively close to the resort.

Pictured below from L to R: Sam King from Rochester, MN with a 35 inch, 9 pound northern that he caught, and Jason from Colorado, with a pretty 27 incher.

Last week wasn’t much better, the weather was still going in every direction, rain off and on, no consistency in the pattern and that’s really what allows the fishing to get good, but it did improve, and has been everyday since. We’ve still been dealing with more wind than most people would like, but wind translates into Walleye bites, plain and simple.

Pictured Below From L to R: 3 limits of Walleye caught by the Curley family from Fishers, Indiana they were caught fishing the north end of Walker Bay, near Sand Point. Dillon Sunderman, and his friend Shane from St. Rose, MN with 3 nice eater pike they caught while tossing spinner-baits in Uram Bay, and Tegan Gillan and his father Mike from Lebanon, MO, with a healthy 26.5 inch walleye.
