Wet and Wild

Last weeks weather made it feel more like a water park than what we are used to in mid July. Activities changed from swimming, and relaxing to bilging boats and picking up sticks. Early Sunday morning at around 1 am there was a severe thunderstorms that literally tore through the resort and surrounding area shaking trees senseless and knocking down 3, luckily no one was hurt and nothing was damaged, but there were a couple close calls, and a few birds that must have went on quite a wild ride. We went without power until about 10 am Sunday morning, and after all the rain was said and done it topped out at over 5 inches in the area, with even more to the south of us.

Pictured below are images of a mature basswood tree near cabin 15 that decided it would rather be campfire wood.

Winds and rain really limited the amount of fishing that was able to happen last week, we had guests that tried with minimal amounts of success, you really can’t expect too much of a return on a couple of hours worth of investment and not being able to get to the spots that you prefer to fish doesn’t help.

Trolling is still going to be the name of the game, tie on a shad rap or flicker shad and hit the reefs, with water temps into the low 70’s look for fish to be hanging out in the 8-14 foot range, if northern catching is more your style, head back to a shallow  bay with a bobber and sucker minnow or toss a spinner and hold on.

Musky activity has taken a bit of a nose dive with the roller coaster ride the weather has taken as of late, we did have a guest catch a nice 45 incher on Friday the only day of the week the wind decided to cease its bombardment of our shoreline. Look for muskie fishing to improve over the next week, with stable high temps on their way it’s a recipe for success.

Featured Image up top is of Callie Mathieu from St. Louis, MO – Callie, we all love Big Rock too, but we’ll leave the tree hugging to you, it’s not as cute when a 35-year-old does it!

We have a few cabins that have unexpectedly became available over the next few weeks, if you’re looking for a place to try please give us a call we’ll make it worth your time.
