Consistent Action

We are now three-quarters done with the summer resort season, three-quarters! I’m not exactly sure how we let this happen, but it seems to every year. Time flies kids, time flies. Kids are one thing we’re soon to be in a short supply of, with many of our guests hailing from Iowa, Illinois and the Dakotas most of their schools are already back in session, luckily for a majority of Minnesota schools they wait until after Labor Day to start.

As we work our way through August we have encountered some very good conditions and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fishing we have been having. Lake temps are slowly decreasing and are already hanging out below the 70 degree mark all thanks to cooler nights and shorter days, at the rate we’re going the annual “fall bite” is going to be here very soon.

Water temps are still in the trolling range and that’s exactly what you should be doing – tie on a shad rap or flicker shad or any other favorite crank bait and hit the reefs, Walleye are all over the water column right now, find areas of rocks and boulders in the 8-12 foot range. Mid-lake reef structure is always best to troll, head out to Submarine Island, Annex, Mokey and Flesch’s reefs and get ready for action.

Jumbo Perch are still being stingy, I would guess we’re a couple of weeks and about 10 degrees off the start of the good bite.

Muskie are still yanking on lures and in all the predictable spots, make those 10,000 casts and you will undoubtably be rewarded.
