Still Kicking

Well, it’s been a little longer than normal and I apologize, here it is an update with pictures and words for you to take in and process and to think I was keeping such a nice schedule of blogs rolling out throughout the year.

And we’re off!

Water temps have fallen as fast as a rock from the sky and have landed right around the 60 degree mark, which, historically as been the go-to temp to get back to live bait fishing and many anglers have done just that, but with larger minnow availability sparse (rainbows, shiners) it has not been as easy as it should be. Fall fish, especially Walleye are looking to spend the minimum amount of energy to get the biggest lunch and that’s where larger profile minnows shine, literally.

With minnows being in short supply many anglers have decided to hang on to the trolling bite, with mixed results. The weather has been anything but stable the past couple of weeks, winds have been blowing every direction under the sun and multiple thunderstorms have passed over head dumping inch after soggy inch of rain.

Perch have been tough to find as of late, with drastic and abrupt weather changes they have been pretty tight-lipped and will likely stay that way until we get some sun and consistent winds, this weekend looking promising.

Muskie action has been a bit of a struggle as of late as well, this past weekend was the Frank Schneider Memorial Muskie Tournament and with 500+ anglers spread across over 20 northern Minnesota lakes a total of 90 Muskies caught that were over 40 inches in length. There is another Muskie tourney to be held this coming weekend with a top prize of $50k hopefully they turn on or it’s going to be a long 3 days.
